Website accessibility: EAA and WCAG requirements

Since 28 June 2025 the European Accessibility Act (EAA) applies to online stores and many digital services. We audit your website against WCAG 2.1 AA, fix the issues and prepare an accessibility statement.

Short answer

Accessibility work starts with a WCAG 2.1 AA audit: contrast, keyboard navigation, screen reader support, forms, image descriptions and the mobile view. You get a prioritised list of issues, we fix them and prepare an accessibility statement.

Who it's for

  • Online stores selling to consumers in the EU
  • Banking, transport, telecoms and other services covered by the EAA
  • Companies taking part in public tenders or working with large organisations

When you don't need us

  • Microenterprises (fewer than 10 employees and up to €2M turnover) providing services are exempt from the EAA service requirements – but an accessible website still sells more

We'll say it openly – even if it means we won't take the project.

What is the European Accessibility Act

The European Accessibility Act (EAA) requires online stores and many digital services to be accessible to people with disabilities: people with low vision, screen reader users, or people who navigate with a keyboard only. The requirements apply from 28 June 2025.

What we check

  • Contrast and text – can text be read and enlarged without losing content.
  • Keyboard – can the whole site, including menus and checkout, be used without a mouse.
  • Screen readers – do buttons, links and forms have understandable names.
  • Forms – are errors explained and can an order be completed.

FAQ

FAQ

Does the EAA apply to my website?

If you sell products or services to consumers online in the EU, probably yes. Microenterprises providing services (fewer than 10 employees and up to €2M annual turnover or balance sheet) are exempt.

Is an accessibility plugin (overlay) enough?

No. Plugins that change fonts or colours don't fix problems in the website code – forms, keyboard navigation or screen reader support.

Does accessibility help SEO?

Yes. A clear heading structure, image descriptions and semantic HTML help Google and AI search understand the site.
